Welcome

I remember when I got the idea to create a magazine. It was a project I had been longing to do, but first, I needed the best information about how to get the job done. I had accumulated hundreds of thousands of researched contents, had written fifty-two books and I garnered extensive publishing knowledge, but I did not clearly understand how to pull it all together. I thought long and hard about how I could present this project to the world. I pondered for months about how I could be unique and provide joyful information without being fake. I wanted my magazine to be so real that people would not be able to put it down. After all I went so far as to trademark the name ‘Ms. Real’, so I could not be anything other than ‘real’ in my quest to publish a print magazine.

I was not afraid to offer my dream to the world, so I began making phone calls to everyone I know in the publishing industry that would give me helpful advice. My first call was to several former Editor-in-Chief of great magazines. I did not dare try to compete with any of them, but I did want to provide another cultural experience filled with choices for people. The only question I was asked was… “Why had I waited so long to get started?” My answer was simple;  “I was focused on writing books and securing book deals, but now I was ready for a new project.”

This magazine’s focus is so clear to me now. It will focus on people, places, and things. Global One Magazine is an extension of my publishing and authoring of books. Global One Magazine is a continuation of my dream. Its purpose is to provide a journey filled with advice, insight and photo sections that speak volumes about things people enjoy. Sometimes one word is enough. I must admit that sometimes we need help to navigate the waters of new projects. I have sought, found, and been guided in the right direction. I am ready. I now present Global One Magazine: a bi-monthly lifestyle magazine covering community, safety, health, fashion, beauty, food, drink, cuisine, recipe’s, well-being, travel, lifestyle, automotive, entertainment, culture, and consumer updates. First published as a website in 1996, its target audience is African American lifestyle.

Oh, before I forget, I believe that there is wonderment and happiness associated with people of all races, but todays magazine is dedicated the African American Woman.  Also, a quick reminder to all my readers…. if we do not seize our opportunities to see the world now, its beauty might pass us by.  I am happy, I am proud, and I look forward to each new adventure. I have met so many amazing and wonderful people and have experienced moments shared with strangers that I now refer to as friends.

In this small yet powerful magazine, I hope you understand that turning your dreams into reality can be attained. The beauty of Global One is that it can inspire, rejuvenate, educate, and stimulate whatever reality you would like to experience. It can take you places that you desire to visit, or it can help inspire your next daydream with our one-word photos.  I hope you and your loved ones appreciate the magic of the products, services and adventures featured in each edition of Global One. Take your time and enjoy every moment as you indulge in a magazine filled with beautiful lifestyle and cultural experiences. I wish you love and health on your journey.

Global One Magazine

To My Readers …

I WANT TO THANK AND ACKNOWLEDGE my supportive readers for enjoying and indulging in Global One Magazine. I cannot believe it’s been nearly a year.  I hope the magazine has brought about a sense of peace, joy, and a series of beautiful journey’s, even if only a few minutes. Indulging in cozy places and things that bring calmness is the objective of every month’s issue. Finding your favorite place to settle at home can be included and can offer a few magical and peaceful moments in time.

Ever have one of those days where you need a little more inspiration than normal. Have you ever felt like you are feeling more stuck than unstuck?  Do you sometimes feel more in over your head than your head is above water? Sometimes it’s not even the task itself that is overwhelming, it’s just the thought of getting started that makes you want to crawl back into bed and sleep until tomorrow. Although I think it’s okay to have a day where you “just can’t” – sometimes all you really need is a tiny push in the right direction. Finding a space or a place that you can unwind is key; and Lord knows if there’s one thing, we all need from time to time is a place to escape and relax.

Unfortunately for many of us finding a good place to escape means escaping mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, or even socially. Maybe you indulge in small local get-a-way’s. Maybe you enjoy listening to music in a cozy place or while on a quiet drive. Then maybe someone else you know enjoys redecorating their home or meditating as a way to relax. Whatever kind of escape you choose to indulge in, it’s important to nurture your mind, body, and spirit by giving yourself an outlet that’s outside of the norm or a simple break from the normal routine. For me right now it’s yoga and meditating in a quiet and undisturbed environment. It’s how I find my version of balance and peacefulness.

Whether you’re facing a full week of days in the office, an at-home organizing project, or running errands that you’ve been putting off, here are some fruitful yet creative ways to stay inspired, motivated, and productive.

For this issue, we wanted to put together an arsenal of photos, stories, methods, and tools that can help you discover your very own escape. I love that you can find joy and peace in something as simple as a clean home, a cozy room, a taste of good food, a soothing drive along a winding quiet road, or closing yourself in to regroup and recharge so that you will like your life.    As always, I send you support for peace within. Keep your head to the sky and move forward. Enjoy your life.

With love and gratitude, Ella

2023 Genesis G90 AWD 3.5T E- Supercharger

by Ella Patterson, Global One Magazine

The 2023 Genesis G90 3.5T E-Supercharger AWD: The G90 drives like a small car. The engine is quiet under concerted acceleration, and it delivered easy cruising and passing power. Genesis is giving its flagship G90 a good presentation boost. The luxury sedan gains styling inside and out, a new suspension for a smoother ride, and new high-tech automated driving experience.

Genesis G90 | Manufacturer Image: The G90 updates its signature grille and slimmer two-line headlights that mimic the Genesis badge. The sedan’s rear end is updated with full-width taillights and an elongated trunk. The upper area of the vehicle has a cleaner look. The G90 is available as a standard sedan or a long-wheelbase model that adds roughly 7.5 inches of interior space in the second row. The long-wheelbase features a 20-inch wheel design.

The interior of the G90 blends the integrated cluster and navigation screen, with premium glass and aluminum in the center console. Rear-seat has two panoramic moonroofs for the first and second row, which can be operated independently. The second-row seats recline separately, and new large tray. A touchscreen in the second-row armrest lets passengers set their own climate control modes, seat positions, massage, and lighting settings.

The Genesis offers a 3D-surround sound function that uses a Bang & Olufsen 23-speaker system to optimize musical themes like ‘Boston Symphony Hall.’

A Smoother, Quieter Ride: The G90 houses a 3.5-liter turbocharged engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission to replace the outgoing options: a standard 365-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 and an available 420-hp, 5.0-liter V-8.

In addition to the new engine, the G90 gets new suspension technology for a smoother ride and improved handling. A camera-based Preview-Electronic Control Suspension system that monitors road conditions to optimize the suspension in various conditions will become standard. An air suspension offers three settings to improve stability depending on conditions: During high-speed driving, the system can lower the vehicle height for improved wind resistance, raise the vehicle on rough or uneven terrain, and elevate the front wheels when going down a steep slope. Genesis says a quieter ride will accompany the smoother driving experience that comes from the suspension updates. A noise-canceling system called Active Noise Control-Road, deadens road noise in each of the sedan’s seats.

New Automated Tech: New automation features including an EasyClose system that closes the vehicle’s doors with the push of a button or a press of the brake pedal (for the driver-side door). A hands-free smart trunk system uses sensors to automatically open the sedan’s trunk when the driver stands nearby, and a Digital Key system uses a smartphone app that lets the driver unlock and start the vehicle by simply touching the door handle.

2022 Lexus ES 350 F Sport

The Quintessential Luxury Sedan

by Ella Patterson, Global One Magazine

The Lexus 2022 ES 350 gets a new grille design along with redesigned LED headlights. The F Sport trim now extends to the ES 300h (reviewed separately on Global One), and a new Dynamic Handling package is now available on the ES 350 F Sport trim. It includes an adaptive suspension system and additional drive modes. As part of the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 package of driver aids, the ES now has Intersection Turning Assist, a feature that’s part of the forward collision mitigation system that can recognize oncoming vehicles and pedestrians at intersections and potentially avoid a collision. Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 also improves adaptive cruise control by automatically increasing speed before changing lanes to overtake a slower car. It improves lane keeping system with enhanced recognition of lane markers and road edges.

How does the ES 350 drive? Acceleration is powerful and smooth, and the V6 is strong throughout its rev range. The steering is nicely weighted and contributes to the ES 350’s composure as you drive around turns. The ES handles better with smooth acceleration and imperceptible gear changes. The ES is a pleasure to drive.

How comfortable is the ES 350? Comfort and isolation has not been sacrificed. The F Sport front seats are firm and supportive, and do not interfere with getting in and out. The rear seats are just as comfortable. You can sit up front or in the back for long stretches without fatigue. The ES 350 absorbs bumps and road rash. The car tames the road and tire noise well. Engine noise is almost null. There’s a good-size gap between front passengers and door panels that creates a feeling of space. There’s loads of room in the back seat, especially between the seatbacks and knees, even for 6-foot-tall passengers. Most heights and body types find a comfortable driving position given the ES’ power-adjustable seat and clear views all around the car. The volume knob feels like an old-school stereo receiver.

How’s the tech? The spectacular-looking 12-inch infotainment display and the widescreen navigation maps look great thanks to excellent color contrast and indicators. Using the touchpad controller while in motion is onerous, but thankfully the display now has touchscreen capability. You can control the nav, phone, audio and even climate control functions through voice commands. The ES includes standard driver safety features, such as adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist, which help minimize lane wandering.

How’s the fuel economy? With an EPA rating of 26 mpg combined, the ES 350 is one of the more efficient midsize luxury sedans on the market. The ES 350 a good value. For a relatively affordable sum, the ES delivers an appealing luxury experience.

2022 Toyota Camry TRD

by Ella Patterson, Global One Magazine

Toyota, TRD (Toyota Racing Development, U.S.A.) and Calty Design have worked together to ensure as many body styling characteristics as possible are incorporated into the Toyota TRD Camry Next Gen so it resembles its production counterpart as closely as possible. From the grill to the spoiler and everywhere in between, the Next Gen TRD Camry race car has the most body styling attributes to its production counterpart than ever before in a NCS Camry. This is a practice that Toyota and TRD have employed since the development of the 2013 Camry in NCS competition.

“There has been a substantial amount of work put into the Toyota TRD Camry Next Gen car by all partners, but specifically everyone at TRD and Calty Design,” said Paul Doleshal, group manager of motorsports and assets, TMNA (Toyota Motor North America). This is a topline, track-inspired performance Camry and it seemed only fitting for it to take it’s spot on the racetrack.”

Toyota continues to be the only manufacturer in NASCAR to highlight three nameplates across NASCAR’s three national series – the TRD Camry in the NCS, the Supra in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) and the Tundra in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS). Since joining the NCS and NXS in 2007, Camrys have earned 155 NCS wins and three NCS championships along with 171 NXS wins and two NXS championships. And since Tundra’s entry into the NCWTS in 2004, Toyota has claimed 204 victories and eight Truck Series championships.

Additionally, Toyota can be seen winning races in the NASCAR regional series, NHRA’s Top Fuel and Funny Car classes, Formula Drift, and midget car racing across the country. Success has come often for Toyota in recent years with the company winning championships with Kyle Busch (2015) and Martin Truex Jr. (2017) in the NASCAR Cup Series, along with Denny Hamlin earning two Daytona 500 victories (2016, 2019). Toyota also has recent championships in the Xfinity Series and Truck Series, in addition to fielding the reigning NHRA Funny Car champion, J.R. Todd. The knowledge learned on-track has assisted in making advancements to the Toyota vehicles you see roll off the factory floors across America.

Highlighted Features: 3.5L V6 24-Valve DOHC Engine, 19-in. TRD matte-black alloy wheels, TRD gloss-black front splitter, side aero skirts, and rear diffuser with red pinstriping, TRD gloss-black pedestal rear spoiler, TRD cat-back dual exhaust with polished stainless-steel tips, TRD track-tuned front and rear coil springs, shock absorbers and stabilizer bars, Larger 12.9-in. front brakes with red-painted front and rear calipers, Sport SofTex®-trimmed * front seats with red seatbelts, stitching and red-stitched TRD headrest logo.

Drivetrain Choices: 3.5L V engine, Direct Shift 8-speed automatic transmission, Front-Wheel Drive (FWD)

Performance Choices: V6: 301 hp; 267 lb.-ft., Large 12.9-in. front brake rotors and TRD-tuned suspension

2023 Mazda CX5 SUV

by Ella Patterson, Global One Magazine

I never looked at the small crossover SUVs for its unique style or celebrated moments behind the wheel. These are vehicles that emphasize the “utility” in SUV and demand maximum space for people, pets, and personal effects in a quest for assured competence. So how does the 2022 Mazda CX-5, with its compact rear quarters and scanty cargo space, manage to rise near the top of the class? Simple: JOY! The CX-5 delivers joy to its driver. Not mere satisfaction with a job well done, but the same pleasure you might get from a small sport sedan and open highway, with the added benefit of room for supplies from the decor store. The CX-5’s base four-cylinder engine is a good introduction, however for 2022, the turbo engine gets a slight boost, up 6 horsepower from last year’s model when filled with premium gas. The CX-5 has a balanced ride comfort and responsive handling. Subtle revisions to the front and rear bumpers, headlights and sundry panels give the CX-5 a cool fresh style.

How does the CX-5 drive? This is the best-handling small crossover that I’ve driven. The available turbocharged engine gets the CX-5 to 60 mph in only 6.6 seconds. Handling is where the CX-5 excels. Since it’s sharp and communicative, you can take corners at speeds greater than rivals without squealing tires or feeling like you’re out of control. The car is unfazed by quick left-to-right transitions.

How’s the interior? The front seats are generally comfortable. The rear seatback can recline for added comfort. The CX-5’s ride quality is firm but comfortable. You won’t have to raise your voice to talk to passengers. The cabin is driver-oriented with all controls within easy reach. The CX-5 is spacious with lots of headroom. Long legs might feel cramped by the sculpted outboard seats. The backup camera’s resolution is crisp. The cargo area fits two large suitcases comfortably. Got small kids? Four slots on the outboard seats allow access to the car seat anchors. It’s easy to push past the slots because the tethers on the seatback are easy to reach even with the cargo cover in place.

How’s the tech? The infotainment system and the navigation system are easy to use. CX-5s head-up display can project turn instructions on the windshield. The voice control system has natural speech recognition. It’s good at entering destinations, calling people, and tuning to terrestrial radio stations. The lane departure warning system emits a unique low-pitched buzzing sound that really gets your attention.

Is the CX-5 good value? Yes, and it doesn’t feel cheap. From the leather upholstery to the buttons and controls, feel expensive. Everything is exceptional. MSRP range: $26,250 – $39,000.Estimated fuel economy stands at 26 mpg in combined city/highway driving for an all-wheel-drive CX-5 with the base engine
